What We Believe

Statement of Faith

Every feature of this app is built on what is written below. It is worth knowing where we stand.

The Watchman is a Christian product. It is not a broadly spiritual product, not an interfaith product, and not a product that treats all religious traditions as equivalent paths to the same destination. It is built by Christians, for Christians, on the conviction that the Bible is true, that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that the times we are living through are best understood through the lens of Scripture. If that is not your starting point, much of what this app does will feel strange. If it is, you are in the right place.

Scripture

2 Timothy 3:16-17

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."

We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. Every feature of The Watchman begins and ends with Scripture. The news does not interpret the Bible. The Bible interprets the news.

God

Deuteronomy 6:4

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one."

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is sovereign over nations, over history, and over every headline that appears in your morning briefing. Nothing that happens is outside his knowledge or beyond his authority.

Jesus Christ

John 14:6

"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.""

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, crucified for our sins, raised bodily from the dead, and seated at the right hand of the Father. He is the only mediator between God and man. There is no other name.

Salvation

Ephesians 2:8-9

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast."

We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. No preparation, no readiness checklist, no political conviction earns standing before God. The watchman who stands prepared in every earthly sense is still lost without the cross.

The Church

Hebrews 10:25

"Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

We believe the local church is the primary community God has ordained for his people. The Watchman is not a substitute for your church. It is a tool for the believer who is already planted in a local body and wants resources that extend that rootedness into the events of daily life.

The Times

1 Chronicles 12:32

"From Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do."

We believe Christians are called to understand the times they live in and to respond with wisdom, courage, and faithfulness. Ignorance of current events is not a virtue. Anxiety about them is not a requirement. The watchman sees clearly and holds steady.

Stewardship

Luke 12:48

"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."

We believe preparedness is a form of stewardship. The body, the household, the finances, the community entrusted to a believer's care are not his own. He is a steward of what God has given him, and faithful stewardship includes being ready to protect and provide for those under his care.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."

Proverbs 9:10
